General Tso's Sauce

Ordering Chinese take out is a favorite past time of mine. Every Sunday when I was in college it would be late night homework and study sessions always accompanied by an order of General Tso's chicken and white rice.

As much as I loved those memories, college came to an end and the adult world kicked in! While I try not to order out as much in an attempt to save money and live a healthier life style I've learned to recreate some of my favorite dishes at home. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

General Tso's Sauce

Cook Time: Approx. 15 min | Servings: 2 (coats about 10 nuggets per serving) |

Calories per serving: ~164 cals

Ingredients:

3 tbsp balsamic vinegar

3 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp chicken stock

5 tbsp light brown sugar

1 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 garlic clove minced

1/2 tsp dried chili pepper flakes

1 tsp sesame seeds

1 scallion, chopped

Prepare the dry ingredients: Mince the garlic clove and chop the scallion.

In a sauce pan over medium heat, add the balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, chicken stock, and garlic clove. Bring to a simmer.

Once the sauce begins to simmer add in the brown sugar and stir until completely dissolved, then add in the flour and whisk vigorously until combined. The sauce should now start to resemble a thick glaze.

Remove the sauce from heat and add in the red chili pepper flakes. You can adjust the amount of chili pepper flakes depending on how spicy you like yours! Pour sauce over chicken nuggets and toss until thoroughly coated. Top with the sesame seeds and the chopped scallion and serve.
